Back to Main Media Layer Three

Daddy, why do people have to use Microsoft Windows?
Don't stare son, it's not polite

Media Layer 3: These are some really cool files. Basically they are like WAV files with a lot of compression. The cool thing is that the compression ratio is usually 10:1 or higher. Another awesome thing about these files is that they can be played just like they are, yes they can be decompressed in real time (this obviously requires a nice cpu though -- basically pentium 100 and up only). Mp3's can hold about 4:00 minutes of CD quality audio in a file that is about 3.75 megs. Cool huh?

Directory listing of my MP3 (list created on July 24, 1998). Of course I own a legal copy of any of the MP3's I have on Compact Disc.
